Fellowship with God – Abide

John 15:7 (TPT)
Drawing from Bible, this sermon reminds us that true discipleship begins by simply being with Jesus. Before Christ called His disciples to preach, heal, or serve, He first called them to remain with Him. In John 15, Jesus expands that invitation by describing Himself as the true vine and His followers as the branches. A fruitful Christian life is not produced by striving harder but by abiding in Him.
At the heart of Jesus’ teaching is the promise: “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.” The sermon emphasizes that this promise is rooted in a life saturated with God’s Word. As believers allow Scripture to dwell richly within them, their hearts become aligned with God’s will, making their prayers more effective and their lives more fruitful.
Abiding is expressed in several practical ways. It begins with resting confidently in God’s love, just as Jesus rested in the Father’s love. That confidence leads to joyful obedience, not out of fear or obligation, but because God’s commands bring life. Abiding also requires daily surrender, choosing God’s will over our own and trusting Him even when His plans differ from ours.
The message also explains God’s role as the Gardener. Sometimes He lovingly lifts us up when we are struggling, using His Word to cleanse and restore us. Other times He prunes areas of our lives, not as punishment, but to prepare us for greater spiritual growth and a more abundant harvest. Every season, whether one of restoration or pruning, is evidence of God’s commitment to producing lasting fruit in His children.
Ultimately, the invitation is simple: remain connected to Christ. As we abide in His love, His Word, and His presence, He transforms us from the inside out, enabling us to bear fruit that glorifies God and impacts others for eternity.
