Choices on the Battlefield
Proverbs 21:2–3; James 1:2–4
This message centers on a clear, practical truth:
Your future is shaped by the choices you make today, especially under pressure.
The Reality of Everyday Choices
We all make decisions daily, but the most important ones happen:
In stress
In trials
In unexpected hardship
How you respond in hard moments determines who you become.
Two Directions Every Day
Life is a battlefield of choices:
Choices that move you away from God:
Depression
Anger
Fear
Pride
Choices that move you toward God:
Hope
Kindness
Boldness
Humility
The Key Issue: Trust
Every decision comes down to one question:
Will I trust myself, or trust God?
Trusting self → fear, control, pride
Trusting God → peace, confidence, growth
Three Principles to Win the Battle
1. Fight Your Feelings
Feelings often lead the wrong direction:
Anger
Impulse
Overreaction
God is greater than your feelings.
Learn to pause, bring emotions to God, and respond—not react.
2. Gather the Right Resources
Don’t fight alone:
Scripture (your foundation)
Wise counsel (people)
Christian resources (tools that guide truth)
Isolation leads to poor choices, connection leads to wisdom.
3. Pursue the Prize (Perspective)
Think beyond the moment:
“Where will this choice lead me in 5 years?”
Wise people:
Don’t react emotionally
They think long-term
The Goal of Trials
Trials aren’t random, they produce something:
Maturity, strength, and a complete faith.
Without testing:
Faith stays weak
Character stays undeveloped
Freedom and Consequences
You are free to choose:
Your attitude
Your response
Your direction
But:
You are not free from the consequences of those choices.
And those consequences affect:
Your relationships
Your family
Your future
Bottom Line
In every difficult moment, choose the path that moves you closer to God, not further away.
